2019 Swiss Cup, Solothurn, Switzerland

My first days back in Europe felt normal enough…

Dealing with some cold and miserable weather ended up being my main concern as I battled to keep warm on my training rides. As Solothurn drew closer I started to feel quite drained and low on energy, probably a combination of my jetlag catching up to me and some harder training sessions in the cold.

I really struggled with the intensity and pace of the race. A puncture with a lap and a half to go cost me some spots just as the legs were starting to feel a bit better and I eventually crossed the line in 12th after what felt like a long, hard day.

"I had two super easy days before the race but unfortunately it wasn't enough. "

There are many things I love about mountain biking – the people you meet, the skills you need, the concentration it requires, race strategy, the opportunities to explore new places and countries.
