I’d felt a bit flat since my arrival in Europe and after a poor performance the week prior at the Swiss Cup in Solothurn I wasn’t feeling as confident as I would have liked heading into World Cup #1. I started to feel a little bit fresher mid week after a few easy days and just laying low.

I surprised myself in the Short Track with a good feeling and a 6th place finish.
“The XCO race however was a different story!”
The heavens opened up with torrential rain and the temperature dropped. My legs seemed to stop working properly and I felt flat, as if i didn’t have any spark in the legs. Somewhere around the second or third lap I had a front flat and dropped back into the 40’s.
I moved forward over the next laps to get close to a top 30 position before another front flat with a lap to go left me crossing the line in 36th position.
It was a massively disappointing way to start the World Cup series but at least it’s only up from there!
