A new venue for me in Snowshoe, West Virginia for the final World Cup of the year. At 1,470m it presented another challenge with altitude besides the obvious health issues and lack of fitness I was faced with at World Champs the week prior.
In the short track on Friday night I fought hard for a good result but it wasn’t to be, finishing outside the top 24. This meant I would have to start the XCO from the 4th row on Sunday.
I felt quite flat on the morning of the race and also had the same kind of feeling in the XCO. It was one of the strangest World Cup races I’ve ever done with the field very tight and compact for most of the race. I lacked the spark and punch needed to do well and eventually finished with a properly empty tank in 33rd position and quite glad for the World Cup season to be over.
It was far from the season I dreamed of but I’m confident I will work on my health problems over the off season and come back in a big way for 2020!
