Even though it is pretty much my home race in Germany I hadn’t raced in Heubach for about 4 years. The weather had been beautiful since I arrived in Germany but in true Heubach fashion on race day it was cold, windy, and wet. Heubach is one big climb, this year mostly on the road, followed by one big descent. I struggled to fire up my legs up the first climb and was well down on the power I am normally able to produce. I dropped back and tried to find my rhythm and ticked the laps off one by one. I managed to climb up a few more spots later in the race to finish in 16th but well down on the leaders.
I was descending very well in the mud so I will take that as a positive and it was the first race where my wrist wasn’t on my mind at all so it’s great to have that behind me now. I just need to find a way to get the legs to work a bit better in the cold!
