I was hoping for a little more in the short track than 24th position but that was the best I could muster on the day. I didn’t have the best start, missing my pedal and I pushed too hard on the first 5 laps of the race trying to make it back into the front group. I suffered big time on the last couple of laps just scraping home with a 3rd row start position for Sunday.
I had a great start in the XCO, making it into the top 5 after the first 500m or so. I was able to hang in for the start loop and most of the first full lap before having to button off a bit. I suffered on the 2nd and 3rd lap and tried to recover a bit which I was thankfully able to do, finishing off with a strong and consistent final 3 laps to take 17th.
I had good speed but I am still lacking a solid base to call upon to be able to do those fast laps repeatedly for the whole race. I felt I had the best race I could have done with my current form so I’m happy in that regard.
Looking forward to the next World Cup in Nove Mesto before getting in a solid training block.
