After a solid opening World Cup weekend in Nove Mesto I had put in a few weeks of solid training at altitude in Livigno, Italy with the team. Lenzerheide sits around 1500m above sea level so the altitude effect while racing is certainly noticeable. Although it’s not my most well-suited course I was still hoping to improve on my performance from Nove Mesto. I was called up number 40 for the short track so in dead last position and had a fight on my hands to ensure I had a good start position for the XCO race.
I worked my way up through the field lap by lap to finish in 23rd place and grab a spot on the 3rd row for Sunday.
In the XCO I had a brilliant start and was in 2nd or 3rd position by the first corner. I held top 5 for the first lap but had to back off and ride my own tempo for the next few laps.
I finished a bit stronger to take home 18th place in the end. Happy enough with my performance and definitely some positives to take away but in the end I would have liked to be a bit higher up in both races!
